The University of Arizona established an interdepartmental Folklore Committee in 1943 to collect songs, tales, folk remedies and interviews from Arizona and Sonora, Mexico. Francis Gillmor chaired the Committee until 1972, after which it was chaired by Byrd H. Granger.
